As the Founder of Feel&Run, I took the training provided by Silvia and found it to be relevant and highly complementary to the running world we offer 💕. Self-knowledge and the intelligent use of one's body. I recommend Silvia's approach not only to athletes to optimize their performance but also to non-athletes to get off to a good start. For coaches, it is a structured and relevant tool. Thank you 🚀.

Silvia is a great trainer. I'm doing a CQP with Jobifit in Aix en Provence. The Pilates training lasted 3 days and was very interesting. We covered the classic progressions for the beginner level. Silvia took the time, and more importantly, gave us the time to learn, practice, and teach. I thank her for the energy she gave us throughout the training.

Léana Pascal Garriga

Silvia and Frédéric offer quality training. Very good explanations and very good demonstrations. They are always there to help us when we have questions. I highly recommend their training. Thank you very much.

  • What certification do you need to teach Pilates?

It is crucial to understand that there is no single "state diploma" to teach Pilates, unlike certain sports disciplines supervised by federations. The training landscape primarily consists of private schools and centers that issue their own certifications. However, to guarantee the quality and recognition of your skills, it is imperative to aim for training listed in the Répertoire Spécifique (RS) of France Compétences. This listing certifies that the certification meets specific labor market requirements and gives you undeniable professional legitimacy.

Opting for a recognized certification, such as with Pilates&Me, is therefore the first strategic step for anyone considering a career change in this field. Quality training does not merely teach you the exercises; it delves into the heart of the method, covering functional anatomy, biomechanics, principles of breathing and centering, as well as the pedagogy necessary to adapt movements to different audiences. It is this set of skills that will transform a simple practitioner into a competent and sought-after instructor, capable of building safe and effective sessions.

  • What is the cost of Pilates training?

The cost of training to become a Pilates instructor can vary significantly, ranging from €1,500 for basic modules to over €5,000 for a comprehensive and in-depth curriculum. This price difference is due to several factors: the reputation of the school, the duration and completeness of the program (including different Matwork levels, the use of small equipment or machines like the Reformer), the quality of the educational materials provided, and the level of support. Online training can offer a more affordable price while ensuring rich and flexible content.

That's why at Pilates&Me, we have partnered with a renowned partner in France to offer online training ranging from €490 to €1290. Our goal is to make excellence accessible, providing you with all the necessary skills, from mastering fundamental principles to the pedagogy required to safely instruct your future students. This allows you to invest intelligently in your project, ensuring quality training that forms the solid foundation of your new career.

  • Is Pilates training eligible for CPF funding?

Yes, many Pilates training courses are eligible for funding through the Compte Personnel de Formation (CPF - Personal Training Account), which represents a great opportunity to finance your project. For a course to be accessible through this means, it must imperatively be provided by a training organization that holds Qualiopi certification. This certification, issued by the State, is a guarantee of the quality of the training process, from the reception of learners to their post-certification follow-up.

To use your CPF rights, the targeted training must also be registered with France Compétences, generally in the Répertoire Spécifique (RS - Specific Repertoire) under the title "Animer des séances de Pilates" (Leading Pilates sessions). This dual recognition (Qualiopi certification of the organization and registration of the training) is the key to coverage. Quality online training often meets these criteria, allowing you to train at your own pace while benefiting from public funding for your skills development.

  • What qualifications do I need to teach Pilates?

Beyond the certification obtained, an excellent Pilates instructor distinguishes themselves through a combination of technical and human qualifications. On the technical side, a perfect command of the Matwork (floor) exercise repertoire is the fundamental foundation. In addition, a deep understanding of the anatomy of movement and physiology is essential for safely guiding clients, suggesting appropriate modifications, and precisely correcting postures. The ability to construct a coherent, fluid, and progressive session is also a key skill.

On the human side, pedagogical qualities are paramount. A good instructor knows how to communicate clearly, use evocative imagery ("cueing") to facilitate understanding of movements, and demonstrate empathy and keen observation skills. Patience, attentiveness, and a communicative passion for the Pilates method are the assets that will retain your students and make your classes an appreciated and transformative experience for both body and mind.

  • What is the CQP training to become a Pilates instructor?

The Certificat de Qualification Professionnelle (CQP) is a recognized certification in the sports sector, but it's important to note that there isn't a specific and unique CQP for the Pilates method at present. The closest CQP is often the CQP ALS (Sports and Leisure Instructor) with an AGEE (Gymnastics, Fitness, and Expression Activities) option. While this training provides a solid foundation for leading group classes, it does not specialize in in-depth teaching of Joseph Pilates' principles and repertoire.

Consequently, most aspiring instructors turn to specialized private schools that offer certifications dedicated to the method. These programs, when recognized by France Compétences, offer much more specific expertise tailored to the demands of the profession. They are designed to fully immerse you in the Pilates philosophy, a depth that the more general framework of the CQP ALS cannot offer.

  • What training for Pilates?

Choosing the ideal training depends on your professional goals. The classic path begins with Matwork I (beginner level), followed by Matwork II (intermediate) and Matwork III (advanced). This mat progression forms the core of the method and already allows you to teach a wide audience. A complete online training will cover the entirety of this repertoire, often adding modules on the use of small equipment (Magic Circle, foam roller, balls) which considerably enrich the sessions.

For those aiming for superior expertise or wishing to work in specialized studios, additional training on Pilates reformers is essential. The Reformer is the most popular, but there are also modules for the Cadillac, Chair, or Barrel. Furthermore, specializations for specific populations (seniors, pregnant women with prenatal and postnatal Pilates, high-level athletes, or post-therapy Pilates) can be a real added value and distinguish you in the market.

  • What is the cost and profitability of opening a Pilates studio?

Opening your own Pilates studio represents a significant initial investment. The main costs include purchasing professional equipment (expect several thousand euros for a single quality Reformer), fitting out the premises (flooring, mirrors, changing rooms), rent and utilities, as well as marketing and business creation fees. The total investment can quickly reach €20,000 to over €80,000 depending on the size, location, and quantity of equipment.

However, profitability can be achieved if the project is well executed. Pilates benefits from a high-end image, allowing classes (especially on machines) to be charged at higher rates than other disciplines. The key to success lies in rigorous management, an effective marketing strategy to attract and retain clients, and revenue diversification (group classes, private sessions, themed workshops, studio rental). A local market study is therefore an essential step before getting started.

  • Who can practice Pilates?

One of the greatest strengths of the Pilates method is its incredible adaptability, which makes it accessible to almost everyone. From teenagers to seniors, from high-level athletes seeking to improve their performance to sedentary people wanting to gently resume physical activity, everyone can find benefits in it. The exercises can be modified to suit each individual's abilities and needs, making it a particularly inclusive discipline.

Thanks to its approach focused on strengthening deep muscles, improving posture, and body awareness, Pilates is also highly recommended for pregnant women (prenatal) and after childbirth (postnatal), as well as for people rehabilitating after an injury, always with the advice of a healthcare professional. A well-trained instructor will be able to assess their students and offer them a tailor-made, safe, and beneficial program.

  • What's the employment status for a Pilates instructor?

Choosing the legal structure is a key step for a Pilates instructor who wants to work independently. The most common status to start with is the micro-enterprise (formerly sole proprietorship). Its simplicity of creation and administrative and accounting management makes it an ideal option. It allows you to invoice for your services (private lessons, interventions in companies or associations) and to pay social contributions only on the turnover actually collected, thus offering great flexibility for starting out.

For those whose activity develops significantly, other statuses can be considered, such as the individual enterprise (EI) or the creation of a company (EURL, SASU). These options can be more attractive when the turnover exceeds the micro-enterprise thresholds or for deducting professional expenses (equipment purchase, rent, etc.). It is often wise to be accompanied by an accountant to choose the most suitable status for one's situation and growth ambitions.

  • What do you call a person who does Pilates?

In the jargon of the discipline, there is no single, established term. Most often, we simply speak of a "Pilates practitioner" or "Pilates student." These terms are clear, respectful, and emphasize the learning and progression relationship between the individual and the instructor and method. The use of the word "client" is also common, especially in a commercial studio or private coaching context.

The founder of the method, Joseph Pilates, called his approach "Contrology," highlighting the idea that the mind controls the body. Thus, one could poetically consider the person practicing Pilates as someone who studies and masters the art of movement control. However, in everyday use, the terms "student" and "practitioner" remain the most commonly used and appropriate in a class setting.

  • How can I get a BPJEPS?

The BPJEPS (Brevet Professionnel de la Jeunesse, de l'Éducation Populaire et du Sport - Professional Certificate for Youth, Popular Education and Sport) is a level 4 state diploma that qualifies individuals to work as sports educators. To obtain it, one must complete training at a center accredited by the Ministry of Sports. The access pathway begins with passing the TEP (Tests d'Exigences Préalables - Prior Requirement Tests), which validate your personal practice level, followed by selection tests specific to each training organization.

The training itself is work-study, combining theoretical courses (anatomy, physiology, pedagogy, regulations) and professional immersion in a host structure (gym, association...). It is important to note that, while the BPJEPS specialization "Fitness Activities" (AF) is an excellent foundation for becoming a sports coach, it does not constitute specialized Pilates training. To teach this method with expertise, a complementary Pilates-specific certification remains essential.
